Some historians trace the use of chandeliers as far back as the time of Augustus Cesar. It then made its way to the Victorian era and the French as well. It original design was to emulate the sun by placing fire high up the ceiling. Off course as technology advances, the chandelier evolved to where it now uses modern energy efficient light bulbs.
We design chandeliers today using the classic designs from the French chateau. The English influence in my designs are evident,but only to an expert. The result is structures that are bold and strong. We have even designed custom chandeliers for the rich and famous, where we were even commissioned to use real crystals in the entire design.
We sold one like it recently for just over two million pounds. Chandelier lighting design is truly an art – anyone can design an outdoor wall sconce for example, but it takes an artisan to design a chandelier that has transcended the generations. Off course technology has changed along the way. From wood to incandescent light bulbs to energy saving fluorescent bulbs today and who knows whats coming ahead. But the important thing is that no matter what technology is around the corner, it can be mounted on to a chandelier because chandelier lighting is not just about the light.
A chandelier is a lot more than just what it is seems. They are more than just to illuminate. First, chandelier lighting is about gently touching you with soft light as opposed to darting you with sharp, focused white light. Second, chandeliers are about adding gentle rainbow colors to the light without discoloring its subjects. Finally, chandelier lighting is about grandeur. Noting about chandelier lighting implies sedate or cheap. It is about scale, magnanimity and style.
At the end of the day, anyone can design a chandelier. They can choose to emulate the many designs that are already in the market. They can even amalgamate different ideas from old to new to result in something that elevates chandelier lighting to a whole new level.
