The Elegant Chandelier

Among all the different buildings I’ve visited, the one that holds a special place in my heart is the palace that houses one of my favorite chandeliers The Palais Garnier in Paris. Incidentally one of my favorite Broadway shows was also written around this building, The Phantom of The Opera. The Palais, The Broadway Show and this article have one thing in common – all three have a Chandelier involved in some way.

The chandelier housed in the Palais Garnier, weighs over six tonnes and sits perched high in the gold leafed ceiling of the theater. This opulent masterpiece blends well with the surrounding and each time I visit the Garneir I can’t help discussion my point of whether it may be the Chandeliers that directs the ambiance or is it the ambiance that frames the chandelier

If you’re wondering why I would even consider that debate and not just enjoy the opulent beauty of the Palais, here is the answer. I am in the midst of designing my home and the debate over the chandelier has been raging ever since the idea was fist mooted. I have had all kinds of comments from immediate and extended family members about the inclusion of a moderate sized chandelier in the main landing.

But the main point is, do I rely on the chandelier to carry the entire property or do I focus on the residence and other Home Lighting as well as the chandelier will tag along? As the discussion rages at virtually every single meal we sit down to these days, what keeps ringing in my ear is what my wise old gramps keeps saying. He reminds me that it actually is really a tiny bit of both. But it leans towards the fact that the residence need to be able to stand on its own, aesthetically, before you ought to even think of hanging a chandelier.

That small nugget of advice seems to be gaining moment in my mind and so I have stated to think about chandeliers that complement instead of looking for a chandelier that’s grand in the hopes it will elevate the aesthetics. The far more I think about it the much more it makes me see the wisdom in having a chandelier that suites the home and a home that suites the chandelier If no the whole thing is just going to fall flat.

Chandeliers provide a certain touch of class that no other piece of home furnishig could ever do.
