LED lighting is the future for household lightings. A few decades ago, these lights were virtually unheard of, but they are quickly being adopted in homes all of over the world. Early LED lights were only used by energy saving enthusiasts since they were fairly difficult to obtain. However, advances in technology have allowed LEDs to become cheaper and easier to produce.
The cost effectiveness and efficiency of these lights insure a high demand for them on the household market. In the near future, many lighting companies have predicted that LEDs will be cheap enough to completely replace incandescent lighting. Although they were once used for small devices like flashlights, they can now be used on outdoor signs, offices, street lights, and homes.
One hundred thousand hours is the typical life expectancy for most LED lights. They can run at 50% for twenty-two years, or without stopping for eleven years. Most homeowners do not run their lights at even 50%, so the bulb expectancy is even longer. An incandescent bulb only has a life span of five thousand hours, so these two lights have different capabilities. LEDs are perfect for installing in areas that are difficult to access because no replacement is needed once they have been installed.
If LED lights and traditional incandescent lights are placed side by side, there is virtually no comparison between them. A normal incandescent bulb requires users to factor in the cost of replacement, labor expense, and time needed for replacing. These factors can become quite expensive, especially in areas where there are a lot of lights. In hotels or skyscrapers, replacing incandescent lights can cost millions of dollars. But LED lighting gets rid of all the extra costs.
The best feature about LEDs is the low consumption of energy. If they have been designed properly, the circuits will respond with 80% efficiency, so 80% of power will be turned into light. The other 20% is turned into heat, or lost energy. Incandescent lights have the opposite effect with 80% heat energy and 20% efficiency. In essence, LEDs create more light for the power consumption.
While once used only for businesses, LED lights are more commonplace than ever. Because of the long operation lifespan, these lights can basically be forgotten about once installed. They do cost more than standard lighting, however, the cost can easily be recovered because of the increased level of energy efficiency. There is little doubt that over time, these lights pay for themselves.
