Planning Out Your Home – Choosing Between Indoor Lighting Options

There are a lot of different ways to decorate your house. You can decorate with paint on the walls, art hangings, sculpture and other forms of decorative items. You can contribute to your decorating scheme with your furniture choices, your rugs and your window treatments. Did you know that you can also decorate your home with lights? The indoor lighting options you decide to use will tell people a lot about you. Gone are the days when you are forced to simply deal with overhead lights and table top lamps. Now there are more options out there than there are people to buy them. How do you decide between your lighting options?

You should plan your budget at the same time that you do your initial research. It is a good idea to figure out how much you can afford to spend on your home’s lighting scheme. After you figure that out, you should break it down according to room. This way you won’t spend your whole budget in your kitchen and leave very little money for the rest of the house. Some rooms just need more money than other rooms. Your bathroom, for example, won’t need the same kinds of lights that you’ll use in your kitchen or bedroom.

What size of space do you want to light? A large room will need more light than a small room. A 10×10 room usually only needs a single lamp. A larger room will need more than one light source-especially if you want to make sure the whole room is visible. If your only concern is a small area, you can simply use a focal light. If you want to light up the entire room, you could opt for overhead lights or some really good floor lamps.

Don’t discount the rest of your home’s decorating scheme when you are sorting through your indoor lighting options. The fact is that there are so many lighting choices out there that you’ll have an easier time choosing your lights if you stick to your decorating scheme than if you don’t. A house that has a lot of smaller pockets of focus (reading chairs, office desks, etc) is not going to do well with a bunch of large and diffuse lights. You’ll want to implement smaller lamps to help focus the attention in these spaces. You can even use your decorating scheme to help you choose the lights in your kitchen. Big fluorescent bulbs won’t do well in a kitchen that is in a house that is decorated with softer tones (track lighting is better).

There are so many different indoor lighting options to choose from that figuring out which ones you want to use can be very challenging. Luckily, if you are smart and do your research, sorting through your options does not have to be difficult. The more thought you put into your decisions before you start shopping, the easier it will be for you to figure out a lighting scheme. Before too long you should be able to put together a lovely lighting scheme for every room in your house.
