Deciding on how to style your salons interiors can make a big decision as you probably want it to reflect you as a stylist, the salons brand and be a haven for your clients. So trying to take all that into account, whilst also considering health and safety and current trends is no mean feat.
To give you a helping hand, we’ve pulled together some handy hints on how to choose your salon’s look and make the most of your space, whether it’s big or small.
The first thing you need to decide on is the type of look you want to achieve; do you want something striking and dramatic, or would you rather go for something muted and classic? Do you want a dark and dramatic colour scheme, or something light and airy. Think about how this relates to the rest of your brand image, the image your stylists have and whether it fits in with your current clientele.
Once this is decided you then need to think of ways this can be applied to the layout and size of your salon, and whether it will work for real. For instance you might have a fantastic vision of a minimalist salon with a huge reception sofa and plenty of blank space, but if your salon is small then it might not have quite the desired effect.
Crucial to a successful design is lighting, as getting the right lighting level and tone can change the entire mood of the salon. So play around with different wattages, filters and fittings to create an ambience which suits your salon.
Seating is also key in the salon, as it’s where your clients will spend the majority of their time: waiting in reception, sitting at the backwash and being styled in front of the mirror. Think about comfort, as well as style- those bumpy natural wood chairs might look great, but probably won’t be that comfy for someone sitting through a full head of foils!
Other than these tips, it’s important to have fun with your salon design whatever you choose, as after all you’ll be spending more time there than at home, so it has to be somewhere you (and your clients!) love.
