There are a lot of different ways to decorate your house. You can decorate your new home by painting the walls, hanging art on the walls and placing sculptures and other decorative pieces throughout the house. Your decorating scheme can also include your window shades or curtains, your rugs and even your choices of furniture. Did you know that you can also decorate your home with lights? The indoor lighting options you implement in your house will say a lot about you.
Table top lamps and overhead lights are no longer your only lighting options. Now there are more lighting options to choose from than there are buyers for them. So how do you know which lighting options to choose?
Which rooms do you plan on adding light to? Different rooms need different types of light. This is the first thing you should do when you make the decision about your indoor lighting. Write down the purpose of each room. For example, a bedroom will need different lighting techniques than a restroom, kitchen or living room. Once you know the exact purpose for each room, you can begin deciding on how to light them up. Preparing a list will assist you in staying within budget and on track. You won’t have to get irritated when you try to determine if you have bought enough of any kind of lighting.
Do you have areas that need specific lights for a specific reason? Soft but bright light is necessary for a makeup mirror, as an example. Do you need heat lamps for an indoor garden area? Would your home benefit from automatic lights? The more of these things you can answer, the better your chances of getting exactly what you need. Make sure you save some money in your budget for any specialty lighting that you might want to have installed.
When you are figuring out your indoor lighting options, don’t forget about the rest of your home’s decorating scheme. It will be easier for you to decide between all of the different lighting options if you keep to the decorating scheme that you have already chosen for the rest of your house. A house that creates little pockets of different moods won’t be helped at all by big diffuse lights. It is better to use small lamps in these areas to help focus your and other people’s attentions. You can even use your decorating scheme to help you choose the lights in your kitchen. Use track lights for your kitchen if the rest of your home has been decorated in soft tones (fluorescent bulbs won’t match as well).
Once you have decided that you wish to change the lighting in your home, the options are endless. When choosing your lighting think outside of the box, broaden your knowledge from the simple lamp or overhead light. Your lighting doesn’t have to just function, but can also be quite beautiful. Choosing lighting should be fun and your personality should shine through those choices. As long as you do your research ahead of time you should be able to creatively and affordably light your home.
