Pyramids Book Review:

Pyramids features a unique set of characters not seen in other Discworld novels. The main one being the prince of the kingdom of Djelibeybi ('jelly-baby'), prince Pteppic. (Needless to say, Djelibeybi is the Discworld equivalent to our historic Egypt.)

Young Prince Pteppic has been educated and trained at Ankh-Morpork's Assassins Guild. Shortly after graduating, he senses that his father has died and that he needs to return to Djelibeybi.

As the first Pharaoh to be educated abroad, Pteppic faces some interesting challenges upon his return home. Although the pharaoh (himself) is the official ruler of the country, the de facto ruler has long been the high priest, Dios.

On top of that minor inconvenience, as Pteppic is forced to flee his country, the Great Pyramid built in honor of his father begins to warp space-time to the point that it shifts Djelibeybi out of alignment with the rest of Discworld, making it impossible for Pteppic to return back to Djelibeybi.

With the aid and advice of philosophers, Pteppic is eventually able to return to his homeland where he destroys the great pyramid and confronts and defeats Dios. He then abdicates the throne to his half-sister, who begins to implement some much needed changes in the land.
