The Color of Magic Book Review:

The UK novel The Colour of Magic, released in 1983, was the first in the long and hugely successful Discworld series by Terry Pratchett. In the U.S., it has been sold with the spelling of the title slightly modified to read The Color of Magic, with American spelling.

The book follows the adventures (or running-aways) of a failed and disillusioned wizard named Rincewind, the Discworld's premier expert on what is important to fear and run away from, and hence also the Discworld's most amazing survival artist.

Unwittingly, Rincewind becomes the tour guide of Twoflower, the Discworld's first tourist. Together, the two adverturers flee the burning city of Ankh-Morpork to begin a trek across the Discworld. What they are unaware of is that they are the pawns in a board game played by the Gods.

In the course of their travels, at one point they come upon Wyrmberg, an inverted mountain that is home to wholly imaginary dragons, and at a later time, they nearly fall over the edge of the Discworld, from which they are rescued by Krullians and transported to the country of Krull.

Krull is a city at the edge of the Discworld whose inhabitants are obsessed with discovering the gender of the giant sea turtle that carries the Discworld on her (or his) back through the universe. To that end, the Krullians have built a space ship that they are about to launch. They plan to sacrifice Rincewind and Twoflower to the god of Fate to get Him to look favorably upon their enterprise. But instead, Rincewind and Twoflower steal the space capsule and launch themselves in orbit around the Discworld.

The story is continued in the sequel, The Light Fantastic.
